I wonder if we could set up a list of interesting things to check when we find/buy a new Oric. Some are obvious, I'll list them below. Are there others that could be interesting to check for full Oric usage, and possibly easily tested?
So far I have these in mind:
- RAM quantity (specific to Oric-1: 16 or 48K, visible on boot)
- ROM version. For standard ROMS, test with the command ?PEEK(#E4B8). Results: 32= Atmos ROM 1.1a; 02= Atmos ROM 1.1b; 201 = Oric-1 ROM 1.0. This test has to be done without disk drive connected.
- Working with disks or not (depends on some mods)
- Tape working with disk connected or not
...
(I would personnaly add "working with Novalight or not", but this isn't vital for an Oric)
Oric model checklist
Re: Oric model checklist
Guess "ram pattern on startup" could be useful since that seems to impact the memory on startup.
And when opening the machine, things like motherboard revision, ram chip model, and if the rom is a rom or eprom could also be relevant since that impacts things like Cumulus/Erebus

Re: Oric model checklist
RAM pattern could be interesting, true!
ROM or EPROM yes, that was the hidden idea of "does the disk drive work"
