Just want to pop in and say: Cumulus kicks ass! I got mine working this evening - there is no true joy than to be able to switch disks so darned conveniently! I can't wait until we work out a way for the Oric to mount .dsks' by sending commands to the Cumulus somehow .. with this power, our little Oric's are going to be MIGHTY powerful! :)

in the last few week i build a lasercutter to speed up the Cumulus production. How do a laser helps? :)
With the laser i am able to make smd stencils and so i can reflow solder the most of the smd parts of the Cumulus. Since yesterday i build 8 new boards... and now i am run out of some of the smd parts. I forgot to order more but now there are on it's way.
Now the 3D-Printer is the slowest part :)

it is plastic. I tested a few different materials and this works good with my simple laser.

What is your "laser"?
My laser is a 230mW 658nm (red) diode. The same diodes are build in DVD-Burner (20x or faster).

But if you what to build a "lasercutter" buy a laser with more power. This laser can only cut dark paper and a thin dark/grey plasic.

yes. it is really simple :)
it is a Arduino the controls 2 steppermotors and the laser. The software and the firmware on the Arduino is grbl (https://github.com/grbl/grbl)
And the you can "print" from Inkscape on your laser.

Yep. Be VERY careful with this. Though 658nm laser are still in the visible range, powers higher than 100mW are really dangerous. And if you are colour-blind (like I am) to reds, it is even worse. I can hardly see the laser spot wearing glasses. It is much better to use power-controlled lasers so that you set them to low power just to adjust position and then increase it to maximum to do the operation.

I worked on the case of the Cumulus a little bit. It now fits better and the PCB don't move any more.
Also i edit the connectors a little bit.
