Oric Atmos wanted

Post by stevelanc »

Hello Oric fans.

I am after an Oric Atmos (I already own an Oric 1).

Just the computer itself is all that is needed, as long as it works. It doesn't matter if it has no box. I already have the cables and books etc.

Alternatively, does anybody know how to upgrade an Oric 1 or know where I can get the chip with the V1.1 Rom?

If anybody has a spare one they would sell me, or is it worthwhile me trying to get one from France, any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!!!!!

Technically, you could just try to fetch any Atmos, even if it does not work: As long the keyboard and the ROM are OK you can just do some easy surgery:
- Open both machines
- Install the Oric 1 board in the Oric Atmos case
- Remove the Oric 1 ROM from the support and put the Oric Atmos ROM in its place
- Reinstall the keyboard connector and close the case

There you go. You have a working Atmos :)

If you don't know where the ROM is located, check this page: http://www.defence-force.org/computing/ ... /index.htm

Atmos are pretty easy to find, they regularly appear on eBay and 'Le bon coin'

There are five right now on le bon coin: http://www.leboncoin.fr/annonces/offres ... oric+atmos
And three on ebay.fr: http://www.ebay.fr/sch/i.html?_trksid=p ... &_from=R40

Prices range from 'make an offer', to 40 euros, to 200 euros, including a 3000 euros piece of art:

Mein gott!

Hello Stevelanc
You can use a 27c128 flash memory or windowed memory (findable in all good electronic groceries)
Put the ATMOS ROM in a USB key
Find somebody who can load the file into this chip with a EPROM programmer connected to a PC
Put this chip on the Oric-1 motherboard socket.

Ummm about putting the Oric 1 board inside an Atmos, if I recall correctly the keyboard connector is shorter in the 1, so you'll have to replace it.

Hi Stevelanc,

I have an Oric Atmos that as far as I know is in working order that I would be willing to sell along with a cassette recorder. However it is currently in my loft so would take sometime to locate it. I also have an MCP40 Plotter with a spare set of pens, again they are somewhere in the loft so aren't immediately available.

Where abouts are you located? If it's not too far from St. Helens I could deliver it for you.

Cheers

Holy gravy!

Well .. to contribute to the thread a little .. I've got one that I'm prepared to sell to an Oric enthusiast as long as its used for Oric purposes and not just punted on for profit .. it'll ship from Vienna, Austria, though ..
