In this forum you can write about anything that does not fit in other forums.
This includes generic Oric talkings and things that are totaly unrelated but want to share with people here :)

The Hunt For Broken Stuff

Post by Dbug »

So, there we are, all the stuff has been transfered from the various servers and hosting companies to one single place with a consistent and easy to maintain structure (for me).

Now I need you:
- please go to all the defence-force related pages/sites/services you have been using, and make sure that everything is working, and if not report what's wrong.

What I'm interested in is:
- Inconsistencies between the .org/.com/.net domains
- Missing pictures
- Dead links
- Missing subdomains
- etc...

Games are fixed, that was a wrong CSS.
oric30years has always been with the white/red style, so I think it's fine.

The big one if the 'http://www.defence-force.org/index?page=games Doesn't seem to list any games.', it's because I do have both an index.htm and index.php, guess I should have both page in the php file.

And the old site/new site should be working enough.
I decided to go for an horrible kludge -> any attempt at going to defence-force.org/index.HTM will fail on the 404 error page which is now a redirect to the index.PHP page.

Another thing I noticed that doesn't seem to be working properly is site cookies .. no matter what I do, I can't get df to remember my login and I have to login every time .. not sure if thats just something that happens on my end or not, but if you can change the cookie name so its unique or different in some way, maybe that'll help. With the frequency of visits, its sort of inconvenient to have to login every time ..

I do have that issue only when switching between org/com/net, when I log on one it stays on.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I am now using org and it worked for me...

When I was using net I indeed had to login every time.

Do you guys click the links in the notification messages that get sent if you've subscribed to the forum? Because that may be one thing I'm doing differently to you - I have subscribed to the forums so that any time there's a new message I get a mail about it, then I click the link. No matter what I try, I have to re-login every time - it refuses to remember the login details.

I logged out, then logged back in again. It seems that things work now - i.e. it remembers me when I re-visit after a small pause, but the same problem occurs as previously - when I hit "View Active Posts", nothing shows up (even though for example this thread is active, as is another..)

I don't know what it is - maybe some cookie issue, but I'll keep an eye on it over the next day or so and if I come up with anything I'll let you know. Either way though, things are functional and I would consider the transfer to the new setup smooth and operating. Well done!
