Recursion 2014 Computer Science Fair
Recursion 2014 Computer Science Fair
Hi Folks,
Just a quick invite: everyone is welcome to attend the Recursion Computer Fair on Saturday 15 February at King Edward Vi School, Stratford-upon-Avon, UK. Doors open at 11.00.
See website for details
Lots of good stuff taking place, including 8-bit and retro/enthusiast stands.
We're still looking for exhibitors and I would love to see some more Oric users showing off their machines to go with my Atmos. Contact me via pm or the website.
Entrance is free to all visitors and exhibitors.
Why not bring the wife and kids? There are plenty of hands-on activities for kids of all ages and Stratford is a great town for a day out anyway, so the missus can't complain!

Hi,
I will be attending this with 20 machines from the Retro Computer Museum. Look forward to seeing you there.
Cheers
Andy

Excellent - hope you guys can take pics and give us a gig report!
Re: Recursion 2014 Computer Science Fair
Have a look at the bottom right corner of the first page of the flyer that can be found in the Recursion web site. Under the title "8-bit Wonders" there is a picture with an Atmos, an Oric-1, and then a Specy a Commodore and an Amstrad.
This is how history should have been written.

Re: Recursion 2014 Computer Science Fair
Just got back,
Met Andy from the RCM - top man - lots of old computers. They have 5 orics at the museum but they didn't bring any to the show....
They don't have any disc drives which made it difficult to demo them. Andy has ordered a cumulus so it should be different at the next show.
So there I was with a cumulus loaded up with lots of oric goodies and nothing to plug into. Obviously I was disappointed but had a good chat with Andy and a few others, made a few contacts.
I was hoping to have a play on some of the kit but you couldn't get the kids off them!
There was some amazing stuff on show but i couldn't stay that long to look at it all properly.
It was enjoyable but it was a no- show for the Oric...
Too a few pics which I'll post here tomorrow...

What a great event it was too - great to meet you!
Apologies for not bringing an Oric . . . as you have said though it wasn't really on the cards as it is so difficult to load into and for shows that is just so embarrassing.
You will have to visit us in Leicester sometime
Andy

Some pics
First, an Atari 800XL showing off the legendary "Drop Zone" (a personal favourite of mine).
This Atari has been signed by Archer Maclean (the author of Drop Zone no less!)
Just visible is a Sinclair ZX81 fitted - I think - with a ZXpand module (SD card, 32K memory, sound etc)
Get those pesky kids out the way, I want to play Hybris!
A Vectrex! (I want one)
Andy showed off an amazing streaming video demo running on a souped up spectrum 128K. I'm not easily impressed but I thought it was quite special. Andy, please send me more details...

Nice pics, It seems that it's a good event ... even if the best one should be reserved for masters (>40 y old)

Re: Recursion 2014 Computer Science Fair
What a serious bummer that there wasn't an Oric on show! C'mon, that should've worked out, if but for a bit better communication ..
Well, anyway, there is a Retro-Bourse here in Vienna in a few months I've been told - and I'm now on the case to get TWO Oric Atmos machines up and running, with respective Cumulus hardware, so that there will indeed be *no* difficulty in loading software into these great machines and showing them off ..
Quite funny to see all the kids getting involved in those old computers - its a reality to me, that kids these days take to these machines with as much interest as we used to in the old days too, and I think a lot of that is down to just how *complete* the machines are...

Re: Recursion 2014 Computer Science Fair
Yeah - that was down to me really I guess - we could easily have taken an Oric (or two). Now we have our 'hardware' it will be travelling everywhere with us. Currently looking for an SD card . . . positive I have one on my desk somewhere.
