Doing 3D games on the Oric ?
Very good tutorial, nice to have something to start the game with a guide, it's one of the things I always hated in Elite, you are thrown in the game world, you get attacked, you don't know what to do, you die.
Here you can learn how to fly and fight, then you are free to do what you want.
Well done!

Greetings again.
Some small advance. I have expanded the routines that prints incomming messages so they can handle several pages of text and also the routine that prints strings so it handles more than 256 chars. In the end I can have longer and more detailed mission briefings and debriefings, which is something interesting...
The newpage code is 11, as 12 (which would be the expected one) is the flashing attribute
I have updated some texts in tutorials 0 and 1 using these features.
In addition the 9th mission has been added and tested. I want to change some texts a bit, but it is basically working.
I don't think I will add many more missions (the current line covers several different galaxies already), and some are quite easy and even the plot that joins them together itself can be considered a bit lame or naive, but I think they might work and serve the purpose of illustrating what can be done.
In case there are dozens of players, I might consider releasing a second mission pack
Of course you are not obliged to follow them to play as in classic Elite.
I also want to code a separate effect for galactic hyperspace... we will see.
I am a bit tired and would like to release a complete beta as soon as possible (whatever that might mean).

Ok, a small post quite late at night, just to let you know I have finished with the missions.
YES, the beta release is close
Would like to add some more code and details, and also have to (argh) test the game from the start and see if it can be finished...
And Dbug is working on the intro, so expect something spectacular

Ok, fixed several issues, and here you are
1337 First Beta version
http://miniserve.defence-force.org/svn/ ... hema/1337/
This one includes:
- Updated manuals, though at least one screenshot is still old.
- User interface updates, and more colorful screens some with in-game instructons, for the lazy people who don't read the manuals.
- Fully featured with tutorial missions. Easy. For those lazy enough not to even read the quickstart guide.
(why do you think I write tech manuals for?... go and read them!)
- Fully featured with the complete first mission pack! Not fully tested, so be warned.
- A built-in saved slot for testing purposes where you have Elite rank, loads of money and a fully-equipped ship. Of course missions are launched inmediately. BUT this is CHEATING.
There are things left, some code is not fully tested and the game balance is a first tentative. Of course, the intro is not yet included (Dbug is working on it, so expect something spectacular ).
Also be warned that I cannot guarantee that you will be able to use your saved game in future versions of the game. I can try, but cannot promise.
As usual, comments, ideas and blah blah are appreciated.
(I need to prepare a video and upload it to youtube).
Happy playing!

Don't worry, Dbug. I am sure there are hundreds of things yet to be done, so I guess you have time
Anyway, for the records, I uploaded a video to youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlVW4r2w8y0
Unfortunately, I have had problems with oricutron 0.6 avi capture (issues when watching the video with quicktime or VLC 1.1.0), and in youtube even if the image is correct, the audio seems out of sync :/
Will have a look at it... meanwhile, enjoy.

Great Job.
I've try it this morning and it's quite good. I'm not a fan of ELITE but the soft is a must for Oric.
Another Hit for my first machine and as soon as i link a 3,5" on my Oric, i'll try it on the real machine, not on Oricutron or Euphoric.
(but the way, i've try also ORICUTRON for the first time - does anybody knows how to change the rom, i don't find it in the .CFG file)
