I agree - the bottom pictures look much more vibrant and detailed in my eyes.

(Still can't believe the Oric is displaying these things!)

I built img2oric and played with it a bit last night .. I just cannot believe that the Oric is doing this! Wow! :) Filled a .DSK full of images, set up a little slide-show, broke open the whiskey, and partied like it was 1984 all over again .. ;) But this time actually with something worth watching on the Oric.

Utter brilliance. The Age of Storage has given us much to do!

barnsey123, why not to add speech synthesis? ;)

PictConv 0.18 with built-in Img2Oric support:
Version 0.018
- Added the -f6 conversion mode for Oric pictures. This is the method used in Img2Oric/LibPipi and generally gives much better results when converting - albeit much much slower than other methods.
The changes are in the SVN depot, and the Windows executable is here:
http://miniserve.defence-force.org/svn/ ... ctConv.exe

The main advantage of using this version vs the Img2Oric one is that it supports all the file formats that PictConv support (so you are not obliged to use .BMP) and also you can use the -u option which will do a timestamp check before converting pictures, so now you can just have a bunch of PictConv calls and the conversion will be performed only if the source picture has changed or the target file is missing.

Steady on...I've got to write it yet... :(

It's something I really want to do, speech, sampled sounds etc. Not to overdo it but use it for maximum effect.
Dbug wrote:PictConv 0.18 with built-in Img2Oric support
great...will try this shortly. the -u option will save LOADS of time.

As it stands I haven't written a single line of code...just playing round with ideas/mockups etc. The idea so far is that there will be a series of chapters. Each chapter will have an intro which will explain a bit more of the story and the characters. Then there will be a game to play (perhaps more than one for each chapter).

The story is pretty well developed, it's been rattling around in my head for years but now it's taking shape quite nicely.
It'd make a great film....or a book...or a game....can't say too much about it...no spoilers here!

Thanks for the updated version of pictconv.

Can someone have chance to build GUI version of pictconv? I am sure it won't be very complex program. Just to simplify command line options and see the resulting image as libpipi ;

lets say

One button to load PC image and show
One button for rendering format option (f) ---> monochrome, precolored, RVB, Twilight masks, RB Conversion, CHAR generator, Sam method etc.
One button for Dithering mode - 0-1-2-3

Then clicking rendering and dithering buttons, program calls pictconv and generate Oric tap image and load it for us on the screen again to choose the best one. When all the settings are accepted, saving the .tap image according to on-screen settings.

I have very little visual basic abilitiy and these are away from my knowledge but I am sure its not that diffucult.

Or, Libpipi can be updated to do all these, if possible.

And, in future, we might have editing chance over resulting Oric picture after conversion :)

Have been writing some code at last...
Having a few issues getting the video to play properly. My sums appear to be correct and the colors look right but it's all out of sync. Will have a play with the new pictconv tomorrow.

Only 12 frames in video (for testing).

Hopefully, I'll be able to add chunks of video which should play at different points in the conversation.

Talking: head moving from side to side, gob opening and closing
Listening: head cocked to one side
Pause: Scratches his chin/nose whatever
Threatening: leaning closer to the camera...a bit shouty.
Yes/No: Head agreeing, disagreeing

By playing these chunks at different times and never repeating a pattern (synched with the text or maybe with sampled speech) it could give the illusion of a much longer video (in much the same way as music patterns build up a song).

Looks like you're getting the throughput you'd need, but the picture itself is barely discernible ..

How about this? :D

BTW I'm only testing at the moment, need to do some more work with GIMP to do some graphics processing (playing with options, re-sizing etc)
