Re: Complete list of Oric Atmos adreeses
t it seems that the Rambling in the Rom collection isn't complete. I'll complete if i've some missing issues. The Rambling-in-Rom is as complete as it gets (#C000-#F263 ended in OUM 143-144), the remaining ones were not published (hence the notes in the .txt files). Where R-i-t-R did not actually g...

Re: Help with two Orics
OK those are coarse vertical bars (character block sized), and I didn't put any of *that* in the test ROM :) I suspect that if you've got a (known) working Diag Rom, and there's no sign that it got into the RAM test, it could have failed at the first hurdle (it tests a couple of low/zero page bytes ...

Re: Help with two Orics
It’s just stuck on showing the thin vertical bars. Vertical like | | | or the "other vertical" like -- ---- ---- I've had that problem before with reports! :) If it's coarse (character block sized) bars, like a usual Oric startup, these are usually horizontal. Vertical coarse bars I know ...

Re: Source code repository discussion
None of this is hard but you have to have seen the rewards of the effort required to use it effectively. This is true. If it's your project, and you don't use any kind of revision control at all, then it's only your own time you waste when trying to work out why something stopped working, where to ...

Re: Complete list of Oric Atmos adreeses
Mike, if you've scanned the two books any chance of a copy? It'd save me a job! I could concentrate on scanning the remaining articles from OUM. No problem, will PM you when they're fully uploaded somewhere (currently running). EDIT: Temporarily at http://oric.signal11.org.uk/files/pub/magazines/ f...

Re: Complete list of Oric Atmos adreeses
The two books you mention -- I think you're referring to "The Naked Oric" 1 (C000-CFFF, 63 pgs) and 2 (D000-DFFF, 74 pgs) which I have on paper (in English, and have already scanned). That's only half the story then ... but the format of combining the routines from 1.0/1.1 side-by-side and...

Re: Complete list of Oric Atmos adreeses
(as Advanced User Guide from Leycester Whewll that i prefer, it's more detailed) The Bob Maunder one (Oric-1 Companion?) has the 1.0 ROM "disassembled" but IIRC there are no comments, and I believe it misses some of the nuance/detail e.g. routines with entry points half way through an ins...

Re: Need help fixing Oric 1
Somehow the NMI pin is always low Now if I can find a replacement NMI button, my ORIC is good as new. There is no part number shown in the service manual for this switch, but any momentary action normally-open switch would do here. It's a bonus if it fits directly into the PCB holes, but if not, th...

Re: Need help fixing Oric 1
So the debug ROM runs but it FAILS the CASS O/Rly/Spkr. The test does not progress anymore from there. Is it hung ? I can hear a pulsing tone with the loopback connector. Then press NMI to move on :) (It really should say "Press NMI to continue" on screen ...) From my comments in source &...

Re: Need help fixing Oric 1
I suspect I can hack the ROM for NTSC. There must be two places to change. One for TEXT and one for HIRES. Which ROM? The Oric/Atmos one for general use or the diag ROM? I didn't do a 60Hz version of the Diag ROM as I have no 60Hz-capable monitor here, and as you probably realise, the 60Hz thing in...

Re: Need help fixing Oric 1
I also suspect that converter may be looking at the signal from Oric and disputing that it is a valid video signal :) For a TV set/monitor of the era, close enough was good enough. All these modern smart devices are more likely to pick holes in the signal! Is there any configuring possible of the co...

Re: Is BD-DOS lost to time?
the real ones have a 'blister' over the ICs. (I'm not sure if that is just protective or has some other use?) I wonder if you'd be able to read a 3" disk? maybe do a disassembly? I could post something like that if you'd like to have a look. I have yet to test whether the BD disks could work o...

Re: Erebus.
I like that hack :) It's even better than the diode thing, as it's a proper TTL drive output, either drive the line low, or leave it to float (open). As noted in another posting, this sort of thing needs to be done on any other thing on the IO control line though (because a.n.other device may drive ...

Re: Is BD-DOS lost to time?
From Personal Computer News (PCN) March 10 1984 :- A review of the ITL Kathmill "hybrid" cable, describing it as a chips-on-ceramic-baked-in-resin (YUM!) device, and also mentioning it has its own ULA on board which implements the disk controller (so not a standard WD part, but a compatibl...
