Re: Atmos Power Supply Needed
There's no 'special' connection on an Oric PSU, there's just a single plug. The connector on that cable will be a pass through so you connect the Oric PSU to the cable, then the 'spare' plug on the cable goes into the Oric power socket. With that in mind a generic PSU of the correct voltage and pino...

I'd certainly buy one at that price. I'd love to be able to take my Atmos to shows with an SDCard device like the other 8 bits.

Re: Is this a game or a demo?
Its available for download on Oric.org: http://www.oric.org/software/starter_3d-738.html
Note that its best to register and log in to that site for full functionality. If you're not logged in it hides some features (notably screenshots of the games as you browse).

Re: New pictconv soon
Perhaps another editor could be tweaked to suit. I don't think it would be too hard to add an Oric mode to something like ZX Paintbrush http://www.zxmodules.de/ which is still developed.

Jonathan, you were an inspiration to many. But for your insights and assistance I may never have learned to code for the Oric at all.

Re: Fast scrolling game howto, anyone?
With a Mario style game, you can do as many Speccy games do and have your parallax bits so they're not actually part of the action, so you can have a fast scroll of a foreground 'ground' object that only uses a couple of characters to make a basic dirt/block effect. That looks convincing running fas...

Re: Fast scrolling game howto, anyone?
No, I don't think it looks bad, not at speed, but as you said in your op when things slow down it becomes much more noticeable that its character scrolling. Perhaps using some of the psychological tricks of scrolling by having a small area (that can have a repeating pattern) smooth scroll while the ...

Re: Fast scrolling game howto, anyone?
Losing the possibility of AIC coloring is a pain. We are now used to them and a monochrome game will look outdated. I don't agree with that. Monochrome/limited colour games can still be very effective if the design is right. I'm still more than happy to play many Spectrum games that are largely mon...

Re: Fast scrolling game howto, anyone?
That's amazing work, really impressive! Can't wait to see a finished product derived from your work, even though that may be some time away. I didn't think the Oric could update that volume of data fast enough to do a decent full screen scroll.

Re: CBM and Cybernoid
What a great tool to release this year, when there's a little more focus the Oric.
I certainly have a use for it, I've been tinkering with 6x6 graphics and this may well make things much easier for me.

Re: Newbie just got an Oric-1
You're missing the 3rd option beyond leave it alone or upgrade: Buy another Oric
A 48k Atmos would sit nicely with a 16k Oric-1 to represent the main range.

Re: Newbie just got an Oric-1
From memory, there's no easy way to upgrade a 16k Oric unless you're handy with a soldering iron, since it requires obtaining the correct type of RAM chips and soldering them into the vacant slots on the PCB. I don't recall there ever being external RAM expansion packs like the ZX81 and Spectrum had...

Re: Oric Hires pics
I'm not sure the color-clash can be exploited this way on ZX Spectrum attribs, or am I totally wrong? Its not possible on Spectrum by default. The Spectrum attribute system allows 1 foreground (ink) and 1 background (paper) colour for every 8x8 pixel block of the screen. There are 7 colours in the ...
