Re: DRAMARDUINO - Dram tester with Arduino

It seems Jan Beta had a try at building it, he even mentions the forum:

Re: RetroComputing devroom at (online) FOSDEM 2022

No ORIC talk in the schedule, but some 6502 ASM with a talk about the Apple-1 OS.

See you there!

Re: Philips D6260 K7 deck bulk repair

Another broken one in UK, with a few marks. Likely just the usual gear to replace.
And a cheaper untested one.

“Symbols for Legacy Computing Supplement” soon in Unicode

Just noticed that Unicode will be adding legacy characters from old computers, I think we should make sure our platform isn't left out. I don't think there's much in the default ORIC charset that can't be displayed from Unicode though, but we should all open our manual and verify. One concern is th...

Re: Worth of Oric Atmos packet

Seems it wants 9V and 12V, nothing that couldn't be done from existing power bricks, you just need to make sure of the pinout, and negative reference, is it like the ORIC with -4V or is it referenced to ground…

Re: Parallel port MIDI interface

I wonder how difficult it would be to build a proper parallel port connector as a bus expansion, with say a few registers in page 3, to send and receive data and check status? Probably not much, some of the chips used in the old PCs could probably interface with the bus. Now how many interfaces wou...

Re: Philips D6260 K7 deck bulk repair

It's not worth paying for something like that IMHO. There are other better ones about - though the asking price is often a bit steep. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324987838178?hash=item4baac8dee2:g:oqAAAOSwnc1h3Ghx Wait for one to turn up at the right price. Well, could have been a for-parts one but ...

Re: Parallel port MIDI interface

The problem you'll have with these devices on the ORIC printer port is indeed missing signals like BUSY. On PC the standard port (uni-directional) was only meant to use the 8 data bits for output, so devices had to use those other signals to send back data in nibbles. This won't work at all on ORIC....

Re: RetroComputing devroom at (online) FOSDEM 2022

We still need volunteers to host the talks at the retro devroom (to read questions to the speaker after the video playback, and moderate the Jitsi Meet channel which simulates the hallway discussion). Ping me if interested :-) The schedule is here: https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/track/retrocomputi...
