Re: Clock Signal — an Oric emulator for macOS and Linux

There is no such feature at present; I'll have a think about it. I guess you'll just have to play with the [SDL-only] speed multiplier in the short term. It would actually be a useful thing to support, though — it existed very early on but then vanished; assuming the rest of my code isn't too slow (...

Re: Clock Signal — an Oric emulator for macOS and Linux

Late 2012 Mac Mini, native build: I'm a bit surprised; everything I can find quickly suggests that Mac should support Metal. The mainstream macOS builds no longer include OpenGL at all, per my assumption that it'll be a liability 'soon', so there's no fallback. I actually made that change when I bu...

Re: Clock Signal — an Oric emulator for macOS and Linux

Minor addendum: I've played with the Snap packaging a little further and there's a much increased chance of the Snap Qt distribution working properly. But let me know.

Re: Clock Signal — an Oric emulator for macOS and Linux

I've had other reports of a blank screen (or, sometimes, a blank screen that intermittently flashes a tiny bit of content) with the Qt build for X11, so I think this is a genuine bug. I'm not currently able to reproduce, but am considering switching to a software renderer* both because it completely...

Starting them young

The advantage of his recently having acquired the ability to crawl is that now he can get to the bookcase and select his own reading material.

That definitely sounds like a bug. I'll file it and look into it.

Re: Clock Signal — an Oric emulator for macOS and Linux

Cool, thanks! So I've rejigged the way the keyboard is handled in X11 with Qt, and am attempting to push a new build now. I can easily see how I'd made an error with escape but, in any event, have eliminated a whole bunch of the sort of magic key code constants that would be likely to cause a mistak...

Re: Oricutron HFE

This is really nice! I think that eDSK is quite similar (albeit more powerful?) to the Oric DSK, so conversion/migration should not be that difficult. Yes, it's a very straightforward format, with the main advantage over Oric DSK being that it's overt about marking out the sectors, so you don't hav...

Re: Oricutron HFE

My emulator supports both CPC-style [e]DSK and HFE, from which experience probably the only helpful things I have to say are: CPC DSK encodes things like CRC errors through the status bytes an 8272 would produce if it were to read them. It's a bit of a hassle, and difficult to verify, but not too mu...

Re: Clock Signal — an Oric emulator for macOS and Linux

I'm on Peppermint Linux. I'll need to boot it up to find the version, but it was a recent install. In that case, is it safe to assume the Qt version, with a full UI? If so then I'm not desperately surprised because Qt really makes using the keyboard in a game-like fashion difficult, and I ended up ...

Re: Clock Signal — an Oric emulator for macOS and Linux

I was having a go with Clock Signal recently and noticed that neither the CTRL or ESC keys seemed to work. I could live without the ESC codes, but the CTRL needs to work for copying when editing lines (CTRL A). There's all the other control codes that are important. Which version are you running, a...

Re: Oricutron 1.0 (EDIT: Now 1.2)

Actually I need some help - I noticed in recent releases that Oricutron SDL-1x doesn't start when clicking on Oricutron.app icon but if I "Show Package Content" and click on the executable - it runs fine. With Oricucutron SDL-2x is exactly the opposite - it runs OK from Oricutron.app icon...

Re: Hello from Bristol

What are your suggestions of nice pieces of Oric software to explore? Particularly interested in anything Oric-specific that is not as well known on other platforms. Don't Press the Letter Q! For which, thanks to the current slate of nutjobs, you'll get maybe a couple of relevant search results bef...

Re: Oricutron 1.0 (EDIT: Now 1.2)

I don't know whether you're building things automatically or manually, but I notice that the macOS build doesn't yet have native M1 (i.e. ARM) support. I have an M1 Mac, is there any assistance I can provide? SDL is now available for the M1, indeed I've already got the framework version installed an...

Re: Hello from Bristol

Hey Kon. You may be interested to know that a lot of the original work on Oricutron was done on a train from Weston-super-Mare to Bath, so basically in your neck of the woods :D It'd be interesting to know what proportion of Oricutron's functionality can be attributed to train delays... I think it ...
