Re: Hard action games on Oric which have an ending?

I don't know if it's considered hard, but bitd I used to be able to loop Hunchback two or three times.

It takes a lot of memorising patterns on each screen, as there are often off screen arrows/fireballs you need to jump to avoid before they appear.

Re: CEO Summer Meeting in June

Is this something that could be viewed in an 'observation only' capacity? I'd be interesting in hearing/watching the event, but don't feel I'd have anything of value to contribute, being more Oric fan than content creator.

Re: Oriclopedia: A series of videos on all things Oric

Since there's recently been a large number of people being confused about Erebus, Cumulus, Cumana, etc... I made a video about it. Hopefully I got my facts right, but if there are incorrect things, please mentioned them and I will put some addendum in the description. Thanks! As one of the confused...

Re: My new Cumana drive ;)

With the Cumulus and Cumana drive etc, has anyone done a feature comparison of the various bits of hardware now available to us, detailing the pros and cons of each? As an irregular forum reader, I'm a bit lost as things seem to have moved rapidly in the last few years, from theoretical hardware to ...

Re: The QUILL

Finally, would anyone be interested if I could transfer Quilled games from other platforms (such as Spectrum, C64 and Atari) to the Oric? If there's no interest, I won't bother, but if there's interest, it might make an interesting challenge for later in the year. New ports of any kind are always w...

Re: Doggy & Zorgon reviews

They do a regular podcast/video on the Spectrum (Our Sinclair), which is very good. Despite being from the US, they seem to 'get' what the Spectrum is about and understand its context. I've not followed their Amigos stuff, but good to see they're covering other systems too with the same respect and ...

Re: Oric Games Trade

I'm surprised at some of these. I have The Hobbit (with the book) and Mr Wimpy from new, I always assumed they were very common games being licences, good games, and ones that were quite popular on other systems. It never occurred to me they were in any way rare compared to things like M.A.R.C or Fi...

Re: TapOric - android TAP player for Oric

I'm new here so not sure how do I download some of the machne code .tap files like xenon etc. ? Register and sign in at Oric.org, then go to the Software section of the site. Find the game you want (e.g. Xenon 1 here https://www.oric.org/software/xenon_1-105.html) and the 'Tape File' text is a hype...

Re: How good (or bad) my English knowledge is? - NonRelated question

I'd rate your english as better than many native speakers of it. Having worked in a public facing position where forms were filled and interviews undertaken for more years than I care to remember, I'd be more than happy to find this level of english in use. So many people work with much lower levels...

Re: At last a smooth(ish) - pseudo hires horizontal scroll

This seems like a similar technique to that used by Joffa for Cobra on the Spectrum to get a smooth full screen scroll.

Perhaps a similar game style could be adopted?

Re: How to build a cable to plug a tape device ?

You don't really need the remote line, since it just pauses the tape motor if you've a remote input on your tape deck. Most Oric games load in one hit without need to pause anyway.

Re: Compression

A two pass run across each column wouldn't add much overhead, since your run length compression would be storing alternate lines, so lines 1,3,5 etc would come first, followed by 2,4,6 etc. The actual stored data is potentially less, since you're more likely to have a successful run of similar bytes...
