Re: HRC in the works

Thanks a lot for your patience. I think I'm going to give you a break on this because it might end up as Groundhog Day  (you guessed it, to my shame at the moment I still don't understand the design choice , I think there's a key element I'm missing, hoping it's not... A brain  I hav...

Pulsoids

One Atari Sector forum, Vyper68 asked for a TAP version of Pulsoids. On Oric.org 18-January-2009, Twilighte claimed that there was no TAP version of the game: "There is still no Tape version of this game. I will eventually compile one since it is feasable. :)" I found files in his archives sent by h...

.... I'm not sure, but isn't this what is used to "animate" the MANIC <--> MINER jumping text in the loading phase? That's in text mode, using single blocks though.
I just checked and you're right! And we just discussed that a few weeks ago. I'm getting old ;)

Thanks for the flashing explanation!

Re: HRC in the works

My opinion is that initially, the "hidden line" between HIRES and the 3 TEXT lines was supposed to actually hide this status line on screen when in HIRES (so the 3 TEXT lines would be the TEXT upper lines), Good thought, but the memory used by the UPPER 3 lines of the text screen (and status line) ...

Re: Another Twilighte's magic trick?

Well spotted, thanks!
I wasn't aware that the flashing attribute actually seems to invert certain values.

Another Twilighte's magic trick?

I just found this hires screen in Twilighte's stuff.
Load it in HIRES.

Now, how does he do that? Apparently, there is no code. Tricky use of flashing attributes? Puzzling!

Re: HRC in the works

The 40 bytes constraints is a hard one! The depacking loop of FilePack is about 115 bytes long... Yes, that's the 1st thing I spent time on, not being sur it would be doable. That's why the compression is rather simple, and why I use page 0. At first I didn't want to use page 0 but the code was too...

Re: HRC in the works

When recently I've played with Macadam Bumper I noticed the defect in the picture and wondered to myself if this is result from K7 transfer error? So, you never had an Oric-1, did you ;) ROM 1.0 has a display bug, showing the TEXT status line in the middle of the HIRES screen, thus damaging it. Wha...

Re: HRC in the works

Macadam Bumper loading screen goes from 8kb to 4.5kb :)

Note that HRC can extract HIRES file from a multipart TAP file.

Re: HRC in the works

Thanks for the feedback ISS! :D As you can see, the RLE compression is not very efficient on such complex pictures, but what I'm happy with is that it still manages to compress it a bit. Some classical RLE algorithms add counters after each byte, as a result the final picture can be bigger if there ...

Re: HRC in the works

Ha ha, nice reply indeed :)
Today's news: HRC now allows relocating the 4 bytes working area, anywhere in page 0.

Re: Wordspeed by Ray McLaughlin

I think I may have a note from him saying it was OK to distribute his software. (...) (Did I scan the manual? I have it anyway, so give me a nudge if it needs doing. ) Hey Steve, thanks for the information. I didn't find back Wordspeed manual in the scans I downloaded from you (I found Wordworth), ...

Re: HRC in the works

Ok in theory now HRC shouldn't display any byte between $18-$1F and $98-$9F on screen (unless of course original picture does).
Now need to test the whole thing and set correct output messages.
